About

James Edwards is an experimental artist, predominantly printmaker based in Bristol, England. He was born in 2003 and holds a masters degree in Multi-Disciplinary Printmaking from the University of the West of England. His work explores queer identity, looking at process as a measure of 'standards', a structure of working that is set by a governing body, to be altered and queered. Concept inflicts his process, working in different mediums, materials and methods dependant on idea, the act of printing itself as an emotive process.

Within his current work 'Wet Television', James analyses the idea of worship, its play with the act of masturbation, pornography, idolisation and the screen as a modern shrine, both a portal and a mirror.

Working by scanning existing erotic film  James reflects upon the brutality of porn, repurposing imagery as fragments of intimate care, love and belonging, spaces stripped from context into liminality, transcendencing pleasure and affection.

He is heavily inspired by the work of Derek Jarman, particularly his attitude and bravery towards making.
